Shift- Sam Weeks

Hailing from the vibrant, second city Birmingham, UK Sam is emerging as a visionary abstract painter. Her journey in Fine Art at the University of Central England has led her to a unique creative philosophy: ‘Notice what you notice.’ This mantra propels her to follow the unexpected, wherever it may lead.

Sam’s artistry unfolds instinctively on the canvas, a testament to the journey rather than the destination. Her process is a dance with chance, where the interplay of intellect and instinct crafts a visual narrative that’s both spontaneous and profound.

Sam says that after creating her work ‘Boundless’, ‘Shift’ was a natural next step.

Shift was painted in response to the palpable changing of the seasons, from summer to autumn. I felt it in my bones before the visual clues of yellows, oranges and reds touched the trees. Autumn’s approach triggered a subtle but noticeable emotional shift within me, a different, calmer energy came through in this painting – though the colour palette was created from the same hues as Boundless, the tones are mostly darker, the mood and marks more deliberate, and the energy steadier. Though entirely abstract, the change in pitch from Boundless to Shift reflects the changing seasons as clearly as do the leaves on the trees
