Sophie-Rose Walters is a Birmingham-based artist renowned for her vivid, mixed-media art inspired by Japanese culture. Her distinctive style breathes new life into traditional Geisha representations, highlighting the intricate patterns and textures of kimonos. Utilising fineliner pens and heavy body acrylics on canvas board, Walters crafts compelling, story-rich pieces that pay homage to Geisha history. Masayo
Masayo is inspired by Maiko’s, young apprentice Geishas embarking on their journey into the sisterhood of the Geisha district. The name "Masayo" means "a colourful generation," symbolising spirit of these newcomers. These women are vibrant, fearless, and full of life, bringing something fresh and exciting to an ancient tradition. Sophie wanted this piece to feel bold and unapologetically bright, like a statement of how powerful and dynamic they are, even at the very beginning of their journey.
