Limned Series - Hannah Pugh

£580.00

Hannah Pugh is a Birmingham‑based contemporary artist working with ink, bleach, acrylic, watercolour, and gilded details to create atmospheric, otherworldly abstract landscapes. Her intuitive mixed‑media process blends memory, imagination, and magical realism, resulting in dreamlike works that drift between reality and daydream.

This pieces is from Hannah Pugh’s debut exhibition at Seventh Circle, ‘All Is Not Lost - Crossing Into Elsewhere, a collection exploring transformation and the spaces we move through.

LIMNED SERIES

The Limned series takes its name from a word meaning to depict, describe or suffuse something with light, a definition that mirrors the luminous, atmospheric quality of these works. Hannah describes the pieces as “imagined cloudscapes,” drawing inspiration from her travels in New Zealand, where “crystal‑clear horizons let the stars meet the ocean.”

Clouds are a recurring symbol in her practice. “Like birds, they quietly observe the scapes below,” she explains. “But they’re ephemeral, here one minute and gone the next, inhabiting liminal space.” She sees clouds as storytellers: their shapes, density and colour can predict what is coming and what has already passed. They also invite human imagination. “I play ‘what can you see?’ with my children regularly,” she says, imagining generations before her doing the same. “Just as stones are threads to stories of people, existence and connection, clouds embody the importance of imagination and the need to communicate through what’s not always obvious.”

Working with acrylic, pastel and 23ct white gold on cradled wooden panels, Hannah creates surfaces that glow with quiet radiance, a meeting point between sky, memory and myth.

LIMNED I

Limned I is a mixed‑media cloudscape rendered in acrylic, pastel and 23ct white gold. The composition captures the soft architecture of drifting forms, illuminated by subtle metallic highlights that shift with the light. The work reflects Hannah’s fascination with the sky as a place of observation, transition and quiet storytelling.

LIMNED II

Limned II continues the exploration of atmospheric light and ephemeral forms. Layers of acrylic and pastel create depth and movement, while 23ct white gold introduces a delicate shimmer that evokes the fleeting brilliance of a horizon at dusk. The piece carries the same sense of contemplative stillness and luminous presence that defines the series.
