BIRMINGHAM OPEN STUDIOS -Artist Spotlight - Parvena Lloyd

Parvena Lloyd: Jewellery with Scars, Soul, and Something to Say

Forget sparkle for sparkle’s sake. Parvena Lloyd’s jewellery is about meaning, stories, and a bit of quiet rebellion. Each piece murmurs something intimate… inspired by the body, scars, resilience, and a whole lot of soul.

Her rings and forms are like little sculptures of anatomy, the curve of a bone, the texture of tissue, layers of memories just beneath the surface. Playful, personal, and beautifully thought through, her work feels more like art you wear than just accessories.

Two Worlds, One Voice

Parvena wasn’t always a jeweller. She used to be a nurse, that’s right, real life, real scars, real stories. And that duality? You can totally feel it in her work. There’s a tug-of-war between science and emotion, care and craft.

Her debut collection is inspired by her time working in a prison hospital. Think:

Silver that looks like scar tissue. Green stones revealing secret internal worlds. Gold that catches the light or maybe a glimmer of hope

It’s jewellery rooted in real experience, designed to connect with your own story.

Anatomy, Alchemy, and a Dash of Wonderland

Trained at Birmingham City University’s School of Jewellery and spotted at New Designers 2020, Parvena’s work is a mix of cleverness and curiosity, like a treasure map of material mastery and wild imagination.

Her pieces are more like artefacts than accessories, carved, textured, finished with a tactile, almost instinctive touch. They seem to have been coaxed into being, rather than assembled. And the vibe? Soft metals, unexpected colours, and a feeling that something simmering just beneath the surface is waiting to be discovered.

Sure, there's a bit of sparkle. But it’s subtle, never in your face, always more thought-provoking. Worn-in, lived-in, loved-in jewellery that just gets better with a bit of wear and tear.

Weekend One only: Saturday, Sept 20 & Sunday, Sept 21
