Ollie Ireson is a self-taught pencil artist from Birmingham whose surreal, detail-driven drawings reimagine the city’s derelict spaces and urban decay. Inspired by M.C. Escher, René Magritte, and the overlooked corners of his hometown, Ollie’s work invites viewers to see beauty in the forgotten and logic in the illogical.
This piece centres on the burnt-out carcass of The Brewer & Baker, a former pub marooned on Camp Hill Circus, at the edge of Digbeth. Shuttered since the 1990s and left to decay. From its crumbling shell, other Birmingham landmarks emerge like growths: the Selly Oak Pumping Station, the Moseley Dovecote, and fragments of the old Moseley Road tram depot.
