Tomas Rowell

Tomas Rowell’s work is a playful balance of intuitive markings and deliberate choices of space, colour and form.

Tomas experiments with the essence of abstraction, leaving behind any external references or meanings. He challenges himself to create with less, bringing his paintings to the edge of chaos and order. He lets the brush move freely, without thinking too much about the outcome. He contrasts this spontaneity with bold colours and geometric shapes that bring harmony and structure to his work. He finds a ritual in this process, where colour and form resolve the gestural marks. He uses the white space as a way to guide the eye and to create a sense of mystery and wonder in the viewer.

Tomas Rowell has always been fascinated by the complexity of art and its academic aspects. He graduated from Leeds Arts University in 2014 and since then he has been exploring the possibilities and limitations of painting as an abstract medium.
