Rugman
Rugman is the alias of Anthony McEwan, a Glasgow-born, London-based artist and designer whose work fuses graffiti, Pop Art, and graphic design into a bold, subversive visual language. With roots in the commercial art world and a career that spans Glasgow, New York, Los Angeles, Paris, and East London, Rugman’s practice is as global as it is streetwise.
For the past decade, he’s called Hackney Wick home, splitting his time between painting pop-style canvases in his studio and stencilling the streets of East London with irreverent, punk-infused iconography. Mickey Mouse, David Bowie, and other cultural titans are reimagined through Rugman’s lens: bright, brash, and loaded with symbolism.
Rugman believes art should be accessible to all, rich or poor, gallery-goer or skater kid. His favourite canvases include t-shirts, skateboards, and city walls, turning everyday surfaces into sites of rebellion and reflection. His work has been exhibited internationally in Barcelona, New York, California, Dublin, Stockholm, and London, with solo shows at The Saatchi Gallery and Jealous Gallery, and group exhibitions alongside the world’s leading street artists, including the legendary Cans Festival.
With a client list that includes major brands and household names, Rugman’s art is a constant presence, on the streets, in collections, and across cultural platforms. Whether it’s a hand-finished lino cut or a limited-edition print, his work invites viewers to rethink the icons they thought they knew.
