JAMES SMITH

James is a multidisciplinary artist/maker working primarily with ceramics, creating both functional and decorative wares informed by Japanese design aesthetics. His pieces generally contrast sharp minimal lines with organic textures, limited earthy palettes and unglazed clay.

He studied Fine Art BA(Hons) at Margaret Street School of Art, Birmingham City University, focusing primarily on painting and installation; he first put his hand to ceramics during the pandemic, joined a community pottery shortly after and has been producing small batches of work periodically since.
